Slavers Ring

Session 6
The evil of the mind flayers makes strange bedfellows.

The companions reached the Isle of the Alchemists attempting to reclaim their sullied name. Upon arriving they quickly noticed the blood stained sand and decided to travel to the lighthouse they had noticed on their approach. Upon arriving they climbed to the top finding a grimlock and a malnourished slave. Black Dow’s bowstring snapped and thinking quickly, he used his massive strength to throw the grimlock several stories to the floor below while Delg buried his hatchet in the back of the slave trying to alert those nearby with a shiny piece of metal.

Having claimed the watchtower they looked about and saw more patrols and a black horn in a granary. They saw the tower and manor attached that they had spied on their approach a few blocks from this horn.

They chose to travel to the horn to prevent any alarms being sounded. Upon arriving by a sneaky approach, they attempted to break into the granary. Lefty’s lockpicking attempts caused quite a racket and left the door unopenable by the handle. Delg followed up by attempting to kick the door in and promptly lodged his foot in the doorway and had trouble removing it until Black Dow backed him up and pulled his leg free. They then smashed through the door and raced up the ladder murdering grimlocks in their wake until they reached the slave attempting to blow the horn and stabbed him real good.

The horn secured it was time to go to the manor house.

The companions first attempted the cellar door, found it was the poop chute and contained a stock of slave for food purposes, then promptly closed the door and locked it back up.

Going back around the front, they rushed the front door bringing down the hallway guard with one chop. They then proceeded into banquet hall where they were greeted by the grisly site of grimlocks chewing on the dismembered remains of those trapped down in the bathroom. While rushing these villains, a grell which had been hiding above the doorway waiting for an easy kill dropped down on to Lefty and quickly paralyzed him and took a bite with his beak. Lefty regained consciousness quickly and ran to the other end of the hallway and tried to unleash his eldritch blast but it backfired sending energy back in to his body dropping him unconscious.

The grell flew over to collect its meal but the others disengaged from their respective fights and ran over to rescue Lefty. It was a close fight but the grell was brought low.

Upon defeating these creature’s they explored the rest of the structure finding a library and a kitchen. A ring of mind shielding was found by Delg. Black Dow found a book on the history of Rangers. Lefty found a history of Raz Zarhan and an ancient text of the Fey written in unreadable characters.

They then approached the tower. They opened the door an 2 Intellect devourer’s jumped out and attempted to take their minds and their feet, but were put down mercilessly.

The companions then found a secret door which led to an alchemy storage room which contained an Alchemy Jug. They then went to the top.

The Seipora at the top with two Grimlocks strapped to platforms for some experiment. They were angry and approached quickly whereupon Seipoar grabbed a jug of alchemist fire and threatened everyone’s life.

Seipora revealed that he was on a path of vengeance and that’s why he had attempted to blow up the Lord. A few innocents in the wake were nothing to him. However his daughter Shandara now being in danger made him regret involving her.

However in addition to the threat of mass annihilation he wanted to make a deal. He had learned some of the Mind flayer threat since he had allied with them to get the necessary materials for his revenge. They were a threat to the world greater than anything he could imagine. While working on the alchemist fire, he had also managed to sneak in some experiments on ways of blocking the Mind Flayers telepathic effects. He still needed more time to figure it out but he would share the recipe if he could discover it.

So in exchange for time and another opportunity to assassinate the Lord Kellington and safe passage for his daughter, he would provide the group with 20 gallons of alchemist fire and the possibility of a weapon against Mind Flayer psionic abilities.

The companions were torn. Making a deal with one who had betrayed them was anathema and left them in a moral grayness, but sometimes both good and bad men have to work together keep the other bad men from the door.

Session 5
Lefty tells a whopper.

The companions Black Dow and Lefty Lightfoot returned from their journey to rekindle the shrine of Grimnal. As they returned to Kellington Keep, a hooded figure approached them. It was Tsonevan and he let them know they had been found out and they must travel West with an old priest to clear their good names. They were reunited with their companions Delg and TsuNam, who awakened. Tsonevan’s powers had increased with the reemergence of his god into their world and made it possible for him to awaken the monk.

Tsonevan relayed that his god believed something terrible was coming and he had seen visions of darkness overtaking the world and that they, the companions must1
They traveled west for a day and half before being overtaken by a young lord and his retainers.

After a lengthy parley, where the lord made it known that they would be returning with him whether they liked it or not a melee broke out between the lord and soldiers and the companions.

The companions fought valiantly and while 2 fell during the encounter, Lefty and Delg prevailed. The lord and his men were dragged away on their own horses. It was noticed the howling cat seemed to stop following them.

They continued on, eventually arriving at stillwater cove, delivering the elderly man. Afterwards they sold the horses and bought a donkey. They then discovered the whereabouts of Seipora. They took off on their boat across the sea to the isle of the Alchemists.

Session 4
Rekindling the seat of Grimnal

The companions experienced the explosion. They met Tsonevan who they discovered is half cleric with intermittent powers. They went to his church hidden in plain site. Tsonevan asked them to rekindle the old church and bring the mace of Grimnal to its ancient resting spot.
Additionally lefty Lightfoot met some old members of his house who asked that he attempt a coup against the new lord. The new lord has been cruel and has been selling his former house members to the Illithids. Lefty gave the man 100 gold and sent him on his way.

The companions then purchased some trusty steeds and traveled on to the ancient church of Grimnal. On the way they were harassed by what sounded like a hunting cat. They arrived at the church, and it was spinning for some reason. Within were a couple goblins bringing a sacrifice to their god, a giant spider and its children. The 2 made short work of the goblins and the spiders, they placed the mace upon the altar and the whole place lit up and stopped spinning.

Session 3
The explosive case of the poorly maintained wagon.

The pcs guided there wagon overland towards kellsworth keep. Enroute they passed by a merchants caravan where they meet Gallivan, the head of this band. They traded in a few simple items. They heard about some events happening further ahead where shouting was occurring. They traveled further along and discovered a runaway slave being hunted by Grimlock. They stopped the grimlocks and discovered they slave had come grin across the northern sea anns some human breeding operation had been set up there. He was allowed to take a name. He chose Dirk.

After this encounter the heroes reached the old waterfall. Lefty got stuck inside so the others had to follow suit. Inside they found an ancient shelter from the apocalypse. They were set upon by the hungry inhabitants but managed to fend off the degenerated humans

They found a wizard study within which contained a book of spells. While examining this a purple worm burst through the wall and into the next chamber. While it was distracted the heroes high tailed it out through the hole left behind.

The heroes went to town. Met shandara. Delivered the wagon and it blew up. Big time.

Session 2
A risky boarding

Our adventurers, after hiding a number of bodies in the blue oars barn, realized that this problem with Gent was not going to go away. Much debate occurred on the correct course of action. They decided to send in a member to parlay while the others his on the shadows.
Unfortunately this was cut short when they managed to make enough noise to alert a hibernating grimlock.
Crossbow bolts darted out from the shadows on the ship. The light was dim though so none found their mark.
Delg quickly rushed forward dodging more bolts quickly followed by Tsu’Nam. Lefty followed hugging the side of the ship for cover. Black Dow hung back firing arrows into the shadow on the prow of the ship.

Session 1 : Introduction
The party is introduced.

Black Dow’s mother was an elf living on the southwest island of Aoshana. She found a shipwrecked human on the shore and saved him from death. They fell in love and had a child. This led to her being ostracized from the tribes of elves. Black Dow grew to know the jungles and sailing and eventually left his home on a catamaran. On his travels he met Lefty Lightfoot the son of a Raz Zarhan warlord who was gettin on in the years. Lefty feared his father being challenged in combat and being in danger should he lose. He left, ending up joining with pirates. His ship was attacked by Illithid slavers in a much larger vessel and he was left stranded on a log.

Black Dow passing through, picked him up.

Tsuma is a monk of the Western Isle of Istvan. He has always been sickly and felt a tone in his head. His goal is to follow this sound and induce it to harmony through his actions. The sound became much more clean when he looked to the East and saw a small ship traveling and joined up with them.

The adventurers passed North of the central island trying to get east to Stormreach which it was rumored was rarely trafficked by the Mind flayers and their enslaved creatures. While trying to make as few landfalls as possible they happened upon a lone dwarf, a former slave on the shore. In the dwarf’s desperation to get off the island a scuffle between Black Dow and the dwarf ensued but Tsuma interjected in between and they were stilled.

The dwarf was allowed passage on the boat to escape the bondage he had suffered on the island.

As our adventurers are finally reaching the mainland of Stormreach their first landmark is Stillwater Cove. A small town of around 700 people which is dug into the cliff facing the ocean. A stairway/ramp leads from the shore up the cliff and into the mainland.

The adventurers row into the docks and make arrangements with the harbormaster for space on the dock and protection of any possessions within their boat. The harbormaster also warns that a highstorm will be approaching soon so they will want to find lodgings for the next day or risk death in the storm.

They go into town finding the Blue Oar to be an accommodating inn. The townsfolk are initially offput by the unusual group. An ascetic monk human, a half-elf which haven’t been seen in years, dwarven slave, and the inimitable Lefty Lightfoot, nicest guy in town.

A couple rumors drop while they are in the bar. There have been reports of appearances of storm giants in one of the islands far off the eastern coast of Stormreach.

They also hear about strange noises being heard coming from one of the ships in the docks.

A rumor has been floating around about a man being burned severely in a house fire and then miraculously healed of his wounds.

The men get food and drinks as well as a room at the inn. While partaking of their meal a group of sailor come in for a drink for which the tension in the room rises dramatically. They look to be ill kempt but swarthy fellows, good with a blade. Their captain orders for them and the innkeeper Findulye looks frightened. They also eye the adventurers strangely.

The adventurers ask around about these swarthy characters but little information is forthcoming other than its best to leave well enough alone. The day drags on. Tsuma travels to the docks and catches a massive fish gaining the awe of the town and many rations as well. While there he looks around the docks for these sailors. Lefty does as well but discovers nothing.

The day continues and Lefty introduces himself to some sailors trying to draw some information out of them concerning this infamous Captain Gent. He proceeds to overspend and become hellaciously drunk in the process. The men decide to turn in for the night. However while they head up some of Gents men enter the establishment and converse with the innkeep.

After they leave the dwarf chooses to ask the innkeep what is going on but when he enters the main floor the men burst back into the room attempting to ambush and knock out this former slave. Dwarf man goes beserk on their asses and massacres them before his friends get down the stairs. However one of the assailants escapes with an arrow in his back.

Realizing the trouble they are in they hide the bodies and stake out the inn from the barn. Some men arrive with lanterns and appear to inspect the inn but not being the bravest sort return without actually visiting the inn. Lefty follows them back to the ship and eavesdrops on their conversation. The men claim to have gone to the inn and not found anyone. Its clear Gent can’t let this failure be known and needs to silence our heroes. He tells them to come back and attack them in their rooms.

Our heroes convince the innkeeper that it is no longer safe to stay at the inn and she needs to find a place to stay. She says she has some friends on another level she can stay with for the night.

The streets are very quiet. No one is out in anticipation of the coming storm.

The sailors return to the inn but our heroes have had ample time to prepare an ambush and the sailors don’t seem to be aware of the dangerous adventurers they are dealing with. Three head for the door while the remainder attempt to climb the barn and into the heroes inn window. Two of our heroes hiding in the barn make short work of these gentlemen with a flurry of blows from the monk and well placed axe from the dwarf. While this is happening Lefty and Black Dow proceed to rain arrows down on the sailors attempting to come in through the front door. Chaos has ensued and there are many more bodies to hide.

Our heroes at this point have realized there is no turning back and they must deal with Gent before the sun rises or their will be too many questions. Hopefully the storms will cleanse them of their problems.
